Ex Manchester United Player

Manchester United legend Lee Martin became JourneyMEN’s first ambassador in July 2020.

Lee’s goal which won the FA Cup for Manchester Utd in a memorable 1990 Wembley Cup final replay, catapulted him to stardom as a 22-year-old.

That cup win secured the first of many trophies of the Ferguson era, kick starting the huge and lasting success of Manchester United in the 1990s and for many years beyond.

Whilst Lee’s Manchester United career was sadly cut short by a troublesome back injury, he gained immortality as a Manchester United FA Cup winner and is always asked about the game and his memories of being at the start of the Ferguson revolution.

Lee played over 100 times for United and was capped twice for England as an under 21 international before moving to Celtic in 1994. Lee subsequently played for Bristol Rovers and Huddersfield Town before ending his football career in the Welsh leagues.

Since retiring from playing football Lee has done youth work in his native Cheshire, helping young people progress academically and gain qualifications. He has also consistently coached young players including at Chester City.

Lee is still actively involved with Manchester United TV and is an ambassador at the club, regularly making trips and playing games with old United teammates all over the world.

Lee said: “Male mental health is a massive issue and I was delighted to see the hugely valuable work of JourneyMEN and to become an ambassador for the organisation. The current corona crisis has put a spotlight on mental health but it’s always been crucial that men get the support they need. I was keen to learn about JourneyMEN’s vital work and lend my support.”

Pauline Daniels joined Lee as JourneyMEN's second ambassador in October 2020

Paulin’s illustrious career in entertainment began in her early 20s as a singer in a Wallasey-based Trio. Struggling to sing one night due to a sore throat, she tuned to comedy in order to avoid embarrassment, telling a series of jokes that were luckily well received by the audience. As a result, jokes became an important part of her act for future performances.

She then later began her career in theatre at the Liverpool Playhouse, where she played Mama Morton in Chicago in 1985, as well as the character Rose in Gypsy. Her most prolific role was Shirley Valentine in 1992 and is regarded as the definitive Shirley by audiences, having played the iconic character all over the country.

As well as playing numerous roles on stage, she’s also played a number of characters on television too, staring in writer Carla Lane’s Bread, and in Phil Redmond’s Brookside as Maria Benson. Notably, she was also the first and only female comedienne to feature in ITV’s The Comedians.

Now through her ownership and management of the Actor’s Studio on Seel Street in Liverpool, she now features her own productions to provide opportunities for new and emerging local talent.

Having accepted her ambassadorial role live on her morning magazine show on Liverpool Live 24/7 radio, she said:

"I'm really honoured to be asked to be an ambassador for JourneyMEN.

"The work they do is outstanding and in such a short space of time, have already made a difference to so many.

"It is wonderful to be able to get involved in their events and activities to help many more men on their journey to recovery."
